Firm mattresses. Firm mattresses fall in 3 categories: firm, extra-firm, ultra-firm. The firm mattresses include the Orbit, Neptune Cotton Only and the Single Foam futon mattresses. Usually, these firm mattresses have very little foam, and are cotton only, giving it the firm feeling. The ones with foam use a denser foam that makes the mattress less soft. These mattresses are great for people who like to sleep on something firm and who need the additional support. The extra-firm mattresses include the Simmons Monarch 2 and the Liberty Futon Mattress. Some of these mattresses are created with very dense layers of foam from top to bottom. Finally, the ultra-firm mattresses are for those that love to sleep on the ground. These mattresses are usually not recommended for a futon frame, but more for a platform bed. These are for people who want that firm feeling of a traditional Japanese futon mattress. The high density of the foam makes these mattresses very heavy and harder to move around.
Divan Bed Bases. Divans are simply boxes on wheels so they can be easily moved or boxes on legs so there is storage underneath. Sprung edge divans have coils or springs set on a frame. These are the most expensive style. Platform divans have a hardboard top and are quite firm. Firm edge divans are made with small durable springs in a wood frame. Flexible slatted divans are crafted with bendable wood creating a slight bounciness. The slat tension can be adjusted as needed on these flexible slatted beds.
Many people are becoming aware of the importance of avoiding products that are created without the use of harmful toxins and other materials which are harmful to us and the environment, and since we spend so much of our time in bed, this has special importance to our babies. Therefore purchasing an mattress for your baby has many health benefits. While we will look at these, lets initially look at some possible problems with the crib mattresses that have been the standard for years. Traditional Mattresses - The Problem. Mattresses have been produced basically in an unchanged manner for years. To protect the outside of the mattress against the likely diaper spill event, these mattresses are encased with a impervious vinyl covering. The soft inner fiber used to stuff the mattress looks strangely similar to the insulation that is used to fill our home ceiling and wall cavities. Although this makes for a moisture-proof mattress and one that is comfortable, there are toxins used in the chemicals used to make the stuffing fire-proof.
